A few years ago Hobie brought out the worlds first stand up paddle board with a built in pedal drive. This innovative product allowed its rider to effortlessly pedal the SUP with far more efficiency than the traditional paddle - a feature of Hobie watercraft of all kinds for many years. Well now Hobie has introduced an inflatable version for even more portability and durability.

The Hobie iEclipse has the same wide stable standing platform with thick comfortable EVA deckpad but this time its a dropstitch board inflated to 10 PSI. This new construction means the board is even lighter and can take plenty of knocks yet still feels rock solid when out on the water, even in wind and waves.

The iEclipse comes with everything needed to get out on the water (except a buoyancy aid!),  all in a strong wheeled carry bag.

Once inflated using either the included hand pump or the included electric pump if near to a 12v power socket, the two piece handlebar system is clicked in place - this acts as both a stabilisation bar and a way to control the rudder system with a simple one handed lever. Once launched simply drop in the Mirage Drive fins, jump on and pedal away. The 11ft hull is easily driven and even novices with no paddle board experience will be flying along in a few minutes - it really is super simple and a huge amount of fun. The intuitive steering system means manoeuvrability is a piece of cake and getting back to the beach presents no problem at all, even in a headwind.

Once you have had you fun on the water then simply deflate the board, remove the rudder and handlebars and stow the whole lot in the sturdy bag - this can then go in the boot of even a small car and once home will fit almost anywhere - also great for campervans and sailing boats where space is tight.

The Hobie iEclipse is best suited to calm inland water and smooth seas.
