Fish Finder with GPS Plotter & Transducer
The Hook2 4x is an ideal fish finder for most kayak anglers. It has a 4" SolarMax screen set in landscape position to best display the seabed using wide angle broadband sonar technology. The unit is intuitive to use, reliable and will highlight suitable fish habitat such as wrecks, reefs, or changes in depth as well as larger fish and shoals. It comes with a new design Lowrance transducer which can be mounted inboard through the hull, over the side using a mounting arm or in a dedicated under hull scupper mounting if your kayak has one.
The Hook2 4x also acts as a basic GPS plotter to allow simple navigation based on waypoints and routes. Whilst this won't give you a chart, it will allow you to set fishing marks for future reference and retrace your steps back to port.
In summary, the Hook2 4x GPS has more features than most at this price point and is backed up by the reliability we have come to expect from Lowrance.
Battery – The Lowrance Hook2 4X unit requires a separate 12v power source. We recommend using a 12v 7ah sealed battery which will give you several outings worth of power before needing to be recharged. This type of battery can be recharged with a simple 12v battery charger, like you might use for a 12v car/bike battery.
Transducer Mounting Options – The Lowrance Hook2 4X is supplied with a skimmer transducer that can be used to shoot through the hull, meaning the transducer can be mounted inside the hull of the kayak. Although it should be noted that this will affect the accuracy of the water temperature function if you require it. The transducer can simply be stuck to the hull using a sealant/adhesive, being careful to ensure there are no air bubbles between the transducer & the hull.
The Lowrance Kayak Scupper Hole Mounting System can be used to mount the transducer through the kayak scupper hole. However, this method of installation is only recommended for kayaks with a recess around the scupper hole. This will ensure the transducer doesn't sit proud and get damaged in shallow water or landing.
The Hook2 4X is supplied as standard with transducer transom mount for use in normal boats. Whilst this is not generally a preferred method of mounting transducers on kayaks, it might be appropriate with certain kayaks and setups.
Fish Finder Unit Mounting – The Lowrance Hook2 4X is supplied with the standard plastic display mount. The base dimensions for the standard mount are 9.5 cm x 9.5 cm. Whilst the standard mount functions perfectly well, the base is quite large & many of our customers opt to use the smaller, more adjustable mounting options. Alternative options offer the ability to mount the unit directly into the track systems on some kayaks.
